Learn the essentials of Latin Paleography online using the award-winning Ductus software! Depending upon demand, courses are taught up to three times a year by Bernard Muir, Professor of Medieval Studies. He is the author of Evellum’s digital programs and founder of the Evellum Scriptorium Series.
At a time when universities worldwide are slashing small specialist courses, you can still acquire the skills necessary for the analysis of medieval manuscript sources, whether literary, historical or scientific.
Here’s how it works:
Each week those enrolled complete a Session of the Ductus program—there are fifteen of them. Supplementary readings are suggested for those with access to a traditional library, and you are encouraged to read as widely as possible. Then specific exercises based on designated scripts are completed and submitted online. These are marked and returned within three days. The Ductus DVD contains numerous supplementary manuscript images and analyses, so you can do extra work if you have the time and drive.
The subject must be completed within four months (unless otherwise negotiated). At the end of the course you receive a certificate verifying that you have successfully completed a course of study under Professor Muir. Scholars from all over the world have acquired this advanced skill during the past dozen years. If you are a student, you may be able to negotiate with your university to have the subject recognized for credit towards your degree.
The fee for the 15-week course is USD $750.
